INEC Chairman Amupitan Calls for Integrity Ahead of 2027 Elections

Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), visited the commission's state office in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Friday, where he urged staff to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and integrity in their duties as preparations for the 2027 general elections begin. During his visit, which coincided with a technical workshop in Ikot Ekpen, Amupitan highlighted the enormous expectations Nigerians have for the commission to deliver credible, free, and fair elections.

He noted that INEC has commenced an internal review aimed at strengthening the electoral process and emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the voter registration system. Amupitan also discussed ongoing efforts to eliminate duplicate registrations and remove deceased individuals from the database.

He reassured staff of INEC's commitment to improving their welfare and career development, announcing efforts to establish a specialist professional cadre within the commission. The visit allowed Amupitan to engage directly with staff and observe their work firsthand.
