Kogi High Court Denies Deregistration of NDC Claims

The Kogi State High Court issued a clarification denying reports that it had ordered the deregistration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Justice Josiah Joe Majebi, alongside former governor Yahaya Bello, was mentioned in the context of a viral post that the court deemed misleading.

The court's chief information officer, Saqeeb Saeed, stated that the Kogi State High Court does not handle cases related to the registration or deregistration of political parties, including the NDC. The court expressed concern over the misinformation circulating on social media, which could undermine public confidence in the judiciary.

It reaffirmed its commitment to fair and impartial administration of justice. This clarification follows a recent legal development where a June ruling by the Federal High Court in Lokoja set aside an earlier judgment directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC, due to procedural defects in the case.
