NDC Clarifies Legal Status After Court Ruling

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), represented by Ikenna Enekweizu, announced that it remains a legally recognized political party despite a recent court ruling. On December 10, 2025, the Federal High Court in Lokoja, presided over by Justice Isah Dashen, set aside an earlier judgment that directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the NDC.

The court found that the previous ruling unfairly affected the rights of the Peace Movement Party (PMP), which was not part of the original lawsuit. Enekweizu emphasized that the court's decision does not constitute a formal deregistration of the NDC, allowing the party to continue its operations and participate in upcoming elections.

The NDC's legal team has already initiated an appeal against the new decision, expressing confidence in maintaining its political status. Enekweizu also addressed concerns regarding the party's visual identity and registration issues with INEC, asserting that no order has been made to deregister the NDC.
