Kogi Journalists Urge Governor to Revive State Transport

The Kogi Central Journalist Guild has called on Kogi State Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo to revive the state-owned transport system, Kogi Travel, in response to growing transport challenges affecting citizens, especially traders reliant on road travel for economic activities. In a statement issued on Friday from Abuja by the guild's Secretary General, Ozumi Abdul, the group highlighted the need for a reliable and affordable transport system, citing successful models in Northern Nigeria, particularly in Kano State.

They noted that reviving Kogi Travel would significantly reduce the burden on residents and provide relief to millions engaged in business across the country. The guild pointed out that the current transport situation is unfair, with exorbitant fares charged by commercial drivers, especially during festive periods.

They called for urgent government intervention to regulate fares and provide affordable alternatives, emphasizing that without restoring the state transport system, the cost of travel will remain high, impacting public confidence in transport services and citizen welfare.
