Kogi State Schools to Reopen on February 23, 2026

The Kogi State Government has announced the reopening of primary and secondary schools on Monday, February 23, 2026. This decision follows a temporary closure that began on February 4, 2026, aimed at safeguarding the lives and properties of students and teachers.

The closure was based on credible intelligence and was described by the state Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, as a proactive measure to prevent potential threats. Matthew Eri Salami, the Director of Basic Secondary Education, confirmed the reopening in a statement issued on Friday and made available to newsmen on Saturday in Lokoja.

He also directed that schools should comply with the midterm break schedule, which has been adjusted to resume on February 16, 2026. Pastor Reuben Jimoh, the Kogi State Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, was also involved in communicating the changes to school members.
