Kwankwaso Calls for Urgent Reforms in Nigeria's Security

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State and a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has criticized Nigeria's current security strategy, calling for an urgent overhaul of the country's security architecture. In a statement made on Tuesday, he expressed grave concerns over the escalating wave of insecurity that has left many Nigerians living in fear due to increased incidents of banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, communal clashes, and armed robbery.

Kwankwaso pointed out that despite substantial budgetary allocations to the security sector, the situation continues to deteriorate, with thousands of lives lost and families displaced. He urged the government to prioritize the welfare of security personnel, enhance intelligence gathering, and implement community policing measures to address the root causes of insecurity.

Additionally, he advocated for investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation as essential steps to reduce poverty and unemployment, which he identified as contributing factors to the ongoing crisis.
