Kwankwaso and Obi Set to Join Nigeria Democratic Congress

Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso is expected to defect from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) next week, alongside former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi. This announcement was made by the Kwankwassiya Movement, which indicated that the decision marks a significant shift in the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.

Spokesman Habibu Moham disclosed that the decision followed a unanimous endorsement from representatives of 44 local government areas in Kano during a meeting at Kwankwaso's residence. The discussions regarding the NDC are reportedly 90 percent complete, with only minor issues left to resolve.

The spokesperson also noted that the decision is influenced by ongoing leadership crises within the ADC, particularly following a recent Supreme Court ruling that returned a dispute to the Federal High Court. The uncertainty surrounding the ADC's leadership and ongoing court cases are factors contributing to this political shift.
