Senators Obi and Kwankwaso Defect to NDC Ahead of 2027

Several serving Senators, including Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Governor of Kano State, have defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This announcement was made on a Sunday afternoon, with Obi citing a need to escape the "toxic politics" within the ADC.

Buba Galadima confirmed that the legal hurdles facing the ADC regarding its authenticity and compliance with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are significant challenges. The ADC is facing a drastic reduction in membership as these Senators join the NDC, which is preparing for the 2027 elections.

The NDC plans to pair Obi and Kwankwaso as presidential candidates, with primaries scheduled to conclude by January 25, 2027. Meanwhile, some Senators, including Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and others, will remain loyal to the ADC, while the political landscape continues to shift ahead of the upcoming elections.
