Kwara State Prepares for 2027 Gubernatorial Elections

As Kwara State gears up for the 2027 gubernatorial elections, political activities are intensifying among various stakeholders. Current Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who has been in office since May 29, 2019, is expected to complete his eight-year tenure by 2027.

His emergence as governor marked a significant shift, ending the long reign of the Saraki-led People's Democratic Party (PDP). The recent signing of the electoral act law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has further heightened political activities in the state.

The APC and PDP remain the two leading political parties, but the ADC is gaining traction with former PDP members like Abdulfatah Ahmed and Bolaji Abdullahi. The 2023 elections showed APC's dominance in the Kwara Central and North districts, while the PDP struggled in the North.

The PDP is strategizing to reclaim its influence, focusing on equitable representation, especially for the North, which is advocating for the governorship position in 2027.
