Kwara State Vaccinates One Million Children in 2025

In 2025, Kwara State successfully conducted routine immunization for one million children, as disclosed by Prof. Nusirat Elelu, the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, during a quarterly meeting of the state immunization task force held in Ilorin.

The immunization efforts were part of a broader strategy to strengthen primary healthcare delivery across the state, particularly in response to a polio outbreak. Despite security challenges, the program achieved a wide reach, with the Moro LGA recording the highest coverage at 91 percent.

However, Elelu raised concerns about the impact of insecurity on immunization activities, especially in vulnerable communities like Kiama LGA, where supplementary immunization activities were quickly implemented. She also criticized the non-release of counterpart funds by local government councils, which she described as a setback for primary healthcare interventions.

Deputy Governor Kayod Alabi commended the agency's efforts but expressed disappointment in the lack of interest from local government chairmen in primary healthcare activities, emphasizing the need for prioritization in this sector.
