Kwara Governor AbdulRazaq Elected President of African Regions Forum
Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, Governor of Kwara State and chair of Nigeria's governors' forum, has been elected leader of the continental Forum of African Regions.
At the UCLG World Congress in Tangier, Morocco, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq—Governor of Kwara State—was elected to lead the Forum of African Regions. The selection occurred on Monday as congress activities unfolded.
Serving concurrently as chair of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, AbdulRazaq will oversee this continental organization joined by four vice presidents from Africa's central, northern, eastern, and southern zones. Mashood Agboola, the Governor's Deputy Chief Press Secretary, released a statement outlining the forum's core purpose: accelerating socioeconomic expansion throughout African regions.
Strengthening subnational governance frameworks and deepening decentralisation and devolution remain central priorities. Continental integration and sustainable expansion depend fundamentally on these structural pillars.
Regional leadership and governors throughout Africa comprise the forum's membership base. The freshly constituted leadership arrangement ensures broad geographic representation across multiple African territories, enabling coordination of governance policies and growth programs at subnational tiers throughout the continent.
AbdulRazaq assumes this role following his leadership period at the Nigeria Governors' Forum. His elevation to this continental post means a Nigerian chief executive now presides over an institution dedicated to regional administration and economic partnership spanning African nations and jurisdictions.
