Kwara State Launches Six Youth-Friendly Health Centres

The Kwara State Government has commissioned six youth-friendly health centres across selected primary healthcare facilities to improve access to adolescent-responsive healthcare services. These centres, established with support from the Global Fund and implemented by Jhpiego through the Integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Communicable Diseases Project, aim to provide adolescents with safe spaces for health information and services without stigma.

The centres are located at Ojomu Primary Health Centre, Lamodi Comprehensive Health Centre, and Nawairudeen District Health Centre in Offa LGA; Ogele and Otte primary healthcare centres in Asa LGA; and Olorun Primary Health Centre in Moro LGA. One centre at Ogele was commissioned on Thursday by Prof. Nusirat Elelu, Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Development Agency.

Elelu emphasized the importance of focusing on adolescent health, which has been neglected compared to women and children. The centres will offer trained personnel to discuss sensitive issues, providing adolescents with a safe haven and a sense of belonging within the healthcare system.
