Kwara State Partners with UNFPA for Maternal Health

Kwara State has initiated a partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to promote antenatal care and ensure safe deliveries for pregnant women. Dr.

Taohe Abdullahi, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, emphasized the importance of receiving professional healthcare throughout pregnancy and childbirth. He noted that deliveries should be conducted in healthcare facilities with trained birth attendants to enhance the safety of mothers and newborns.

The initiative includes the distribution of delivery kits to expectant mothers to support safe births and encourages the continued use of antenatal services. Dr.

Gloria Enuez, the UNFPA focal person, highlighted the critical role of midwives in maternal and newborn healthcare, which is essential for ensuring safe pregnancies and successful deliveries. Hajia Sulyman Ajibola, the head of the Health Department in Ilorin East Local Government Area, welcomed the initiative and urged pregnant women to utilize the delivery kits provided during the program.

The campaign also includes awareness on malaria prevention and the importance of regular health check-ups.
