Kwara's IGR Reaches N92bn as Taxpayer Numbers Surge

The Kwara State Government announced a significant increase in its internally generated revenue (IGR), which rose from N69.19 billion in 2024 to N92.19 billion in 2025. Shade Omoniyi, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), made this announcement in Ilorin during the commissioning of the new 11-storey Revenue House by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The new facility is recognized as the second-best Finance House after the Federal Inland Revenue Service in Abuja. Omoniyi reported that taxpayer records grew from fewer than 50,000 to over 1.4 million during her tenure.

The increase in IGR from N35.45 billion in 2022 to N56.42 billion in 2023, and subsequently to N69.19 billion in 2024, was attributed to improved technology, better data collection, and efforts to enhance taxpayer confidence. The Revenue House, financed by savings from budgetary allocations for consultants, aims to streamline tax administration and provide a one-stop center for taxpayers.
