Labour Party Suspends Benue Chairman and 25 Others

The Labour Party announced the suspension of Emmanuel Agida, the former chairman of the party in Benue State, along with 25 other members, including Hon. Hilda Doukubo and former chairpersons from Rivers and Bayelsa states.

This decision was made by a caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi Usman, following a Supreme Court ruling that invalidated the leadership of Julius Abur, the former national chairman. The Supreme Court's landmark judgment, delivered on April 4, 2025, set aside a previous court appeal that recognized Abur's leadership.

The court ruled that Senator Nenadi Usman is the valid national chairman of the party and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stop recognizing Abur. The Labour Party plans to hold a national convention on April 28, 2026, to elect new national officials.

The suspensions were approved by the party's national executive council.
