Lagos Launches $25M Fund to Enroll 50,000 Children

On a recent Sunday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the launch of a new education access fund worth $25 million, designed to enroll 50,000 out-of-school children aged six to fourteen into formal education. This initiative aims to improve learning outcomes across public schools in the state.

The announcement was made during a ceremony held at Lagos House, Marina, where Sanwo-Olu emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring every child in Lagos has access to free, quality basic education. The program is expected to benefit a total of 200,000 children and is part of a broader strategy to strengthen literacy and numeracy foundations for the 150,000 pupils currently enrolled in public schools.

The initiative builds on previous efforts, including the Project Zero launched in 2021, which successfully reintegrated 36,000 children into the education system. The program will also involve training 360 parents and guardians in vocational skills to better support their children's educational progress.
