LAWMA Initiates Pre-Festive Cleaning in Ikoyi

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has launched a pre-festive cleaning operation in Ikoyi, aimed at enhancing environmental sanitation in preparation for increased activities during the festive season. Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, stated that this initiative is part of broader efforts to intensify sanitation operations across strategic locations in Lagos.

The operation began with the cleaning of drainage channels along Bourdillon, Alexander, and Gerrard corridors, which involved the removal of accumulated silt, waste, and obstructions. Gbadegesin emphasized that materials evacuated from the channels are being removed immediately to prevent wash-back and new environmental issues.

He noted that this exercise would facilitate the free flow of water and improve the area's overall environmental condition for residents, businesses, and road users. The cleaning operation will extend to other streets in Ikoyi and eventually to Victoria Island and other parts of Lagos.

Gbadegesin urged residents and businesses to cooperate with LAWMA by keeping drainage channels clear and providing access for cleaning operations.
