LAWMA Engages Youth Groups for Cleaner Lagos Initiative

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) is actively seeking greater involvement from youth organizations to improve waste management practices in Lagos. During a recent visit to LAWMA’s headquarters in Ijora-Olopa, representatives from the Rotaract Club of Ikoyi and Achiever Leo Club pledged their support for initiatives focused on recycling and environmental responsibility.

Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, outlined the authority's strategy to reduce landfill waste while enhancing material recovery and economic value from discarded items. He highlighted the establishment of Material Recovery Facilities in Badagry and Agbowa, which will facilitate better sorting and recovery of recyclable materials.

Additionally, he mentioned LAWMA’s Academy, aimed at educating children and young people about sustainable living and waste management. The representatives from the youth clubs expressed their commitment to collaborate with LAWMA on programs to raise public awareness and encourage responsible waste disposal, emphasizing the importance of community participation in achieving sustainable waste management.
