Lagos Expands Water Transport with New 50km Ferry Routes

The Lagos State Government is enhancing its water transport infrastructure by introducing 50km of new ferry routes, as disclosed by Hon. Dayo Bush-Alebiosu during an annual ministerial press briefing.

The initiative aims to improve navigation across Lagos waterways and reduce incidents of boat accidents caused by submerged shipwrecks and navigational hazards. The project includes the development of 14.8km Ikorodu Mend Channel in Kosofe Local Government Area and a similar route in Agboyi.

Additionally, modern concrete floating pontoons are being installed at selected jetties to ensure safer and more efficient boarding for passengers. This design adapts to changing water levels, unlike traditional wooden jetties.

The Lagos State Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development is overseeing these improvements, which are part of a broader commitment to modernize the state's multimodal transport network and enhance economic activities in riverine communities.
