Lagos Food Prices Drop in April 2026 Amid Supply Boost

In April 2026, food prices in Lagos showed signs of easing as supply conditions improved, reversing the price spike observed in March. The decline in prices was attributed to better supply conditions and reduced logistical pressures, including a drop in fuel prices from N1,320 per liter in March to N1,245.

A market survey conducted by Nairametrics tracked 67 staple food items across major markets, including Mushin, Daleko, Mile 12, and Oyingbo, revealing a mixed trend in prices. While some items saw significant price reductions, particularly in protein and processed foods, five items remained unchanged during this period.

The survey highlighted that the overall food price movement was largely driven by improved inflow of farm produce, despite warnings from traders about the fragility of these gains. The April data indicated a cooling phase in food prices, although imported items, especially soup ingredients, became more expensive due to low supply from the dry season.
