“Lagos Govt Didn’t Give Us ₦15m”: Peter Rufai’s Family Clears the Air After Burial

Peter Rufai's family has clarified that the Lagos State Government did not provide them with ₦15 million for the burial of the former Nigerian football goalkeeper. Rufai, who passed away on July 3 after a long illness, was laid to rest on August 22 in Lagos.

The funeral was attended by notable figures such as Taribo West, Samson Siasia, and Joseph Yobo. Rufai had a successful career, playing for clubs in Europe and representing Nigeria in two FIFA World Cups.

Former Super Eagles player Austin Eguavoen stated that the family felt abandoned by the Lagos State and Federal Government. Rufai's younger brother, Bruce Sunny, debunked rumors circulating on social media about the government's financial support, confirming that the family did not receive ₦15 million but acknowledged contributions from the Nigeria Football Federation and other individuals.
