Lagos State Sues 45 Firms Over Tax Defaults

The Lagos State Government has filed legal proceedings against 45 firms and individuals for alleged unpaid taxes totaling several billion naira. This action, initiated by the Attorney General Lawal Pedro, targets major entities including Daar Communications Plc, which owes N38,701,954.25, and GMT Energy Resources Limited, with outstanding liabilities exceeding N145.8 million.

Other companies involved include Heyden Petroleum Limited, Primero Transport Services Limited, and several others with varying amounts owed. The legal action is part of a broader effort to enforce tax compliance and boost state revenue necessary for infrastructure and public services.

The Attorney General has urged businesses to comply with tax laws, file annual returns, and settle assessments promptly to avoid penalties and further legal action. The individual liabilities range from approximately N13.5 million to N35 million, highlighting the significant financial obligations of the involved parties.
