Lagos State Government Enhances Waste Collection Efforts

The Lagos State Government intensified its waste collection efforts on Saturday, urging residents to refrain from dumping refuse into canals and drainage channels. This initiative was led by Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, during a monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the Ajina area of Ikorodu.
Mr Bode Agoro, the Head of Service, also participated in the exercise in Ikeja. They warned that improper waste disposal undermines sanitation efforts and increases flooding risks.
Dr Sanwo-Olu encouraged Ikorodu residents to maintain cleanliness beyond the monthly exercise and work towards being the cleanest Local Government Area in Lagos. She emphasized the importance of public sensitization for promoting environmental cleanliness.
Agoro noted that this was the seventh sanitation exercise since March and called on local government officials to mobilize residents for improved sanitation. He mentioned that the Ministry of the Environment would clear affected canals and that plans were underway to reconstruct a canal in consultation with drainage authorities.
