Lagos State Enhances Waste Management with New Compactors
Waste collection in Lagos State has seen significant improvement as the state government and Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators have deployed more waste compactors to address the ongoing waste crisis. The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has assured residents that the challenges in waste collection will ease in the coming months.
Recent observations in areas such as Oyingbo, Mushin, and Egbeda indicate that waste collection has improved, with residents noting that refuse is now being collected regularly. The Lagos State government has received 10 new waste compactor trucks, donated by the Lagos State Lottery and Gaming Authority, to bolster waste collection and enhance environmental sanitation.
Kunle Adeshina, spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, emphasized the importance of this donation as part of corporate social responsibility and inter-agency collaboration. Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, highlighted that Lagos generates over 13,000 tonnes of waste daily, necessitating continuous investment in waste management infrastructure and partnerships.
