Idris Ashimiyu Sentenced to Life for Defiling Minor

Idris Ashimiyu was sentenced to life imprisonment by Justice Abiola Soladoye at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for defiling an 11-year-old girl. The conviction followed a one-count charge of defilement brought by the Lagos State Government.
During the trial, the survivor, who was 13 years old at the time of the trial and 11 when the incident occurred, testified that Ashimiyu, who assisted in their compound, assaulted her. The judge noted that the survivor's grandmother discovered the incident and that Ashimiyu was beaten before being taken to the police.
In his defense, Ashimiyu's counsel, A.O. Ayode, presented a witness, Ibrahim, who claimed Ashimiyu was only playing with the girl.
However, Justice Soladoye found the survivor's testimony credible and coherent, establishing that she was a child who did not consent to the act. Ashimiyu did not testify in his defense.
The judge ordered his name to be entered into the Lagos State Sexual Offenders Register.
