Lagos Teacher Nwatu Isaac Sentenced to Life for Defilement

Nwatu Isaac, a teacher at El-Bossaa Nursery and Primary School in Epe, Lagos, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling an eight-year-old pupil. The judgment was delivered by Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on 29th September 2026.
The court found Isaac guilty of the crime, which occurred on 10th March 2022. The prosecution established that the survivor, who was nine years old at the time of her testimony, provided credible and consistent evidence, identifying Isaac as the perpetrator.
The court also considered the testimony of the survivor's mother and medical evidence from the Mirabel Centre, which corroborated the claims of penetration. Isaac's defenses, including his denial of being at the school and an alibi, were rejected.
His name will be added to the Sexual Offenders Register, and the court directed the prosecution to ensure protection and support for the survivor and her family under the Victim Assistance and Witness Protection Law, 2022.
