Lagos Celebrates Noise Awareness Day with Student Debate

The Lagos State Environment Protection Agency (LASEPA) organized the final inter-district essay debate competition to mark the 2026 International Noise Awareness Day, reaffirming its commitment to tackling noise pollution across the state. The event took place in LASEPA's conference room in Alausa, Ikeja, with the theme "Protect Your Hearing, Protect Your Health." Six educational districts participated, and Alimosho Senior Grammar School, represented by David Olufemi, emerged as the overall winner with 373 points.

Bello Awwal from Obel Community Senior High School followed with 368 points, while Onaolapo Olabiyi from Lagos State Senior Model College, Kanko, secured third place with 339 points. Other finalists included Nnajiofor Pemela, Eva Adelaja, Ismail Olanrewaju, and Amobi Preciou.

The top three winners are expected to be honored at LASEPA's Noise-less Lagos Advocacy Program scheduled for May 12, 2026. The event featured speakers, including Rotimi Akodu, who highlighted the serious public health issues related to noise pollution, citing global data on its effects.
