LASEPA Reports 65% Rise in Noise Pollution Complaints

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) disclosed that 65% of complaints received from residents pertain to noise pollution, highlighting an urgent need for stronger stakeholder collaboration to tackle this challenge. Dr.

Babatunde Ajayi, the General Manager of LASEPA, announced these findings at the 11th Noise-less Lagos Summit, themed "Advancing Sound Control Technology in Emerging Smart Cities." The agency prioritizes dialogue and advocacy to reduce the need for enforcement actions across the state. Ajayi noted that LASEPA's engagement targets a broad range of businesses, including religious centers and commercial operations, stressing the importance of balancing business interests with the quality of life for residents.

The forum aims to deepen understanding of existing regulatory limits and encourage compliance rather than sanctions. Mujidah Olaid, from the Physical Planning Office, emphasized the need for residents to comply with environmental laws, while Ismael highlighted the economic impact of noise pollution, estimating a loss of 990 billion Naira annually due to its effects.
