Lagos and MTN Collaborate to Redevelop Obalende Under-Bridge into Modern Transport Hub

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has given the green light for the redevelopment of the Obalende bus stop under-bridge into a modern bus transport hub. The project, fully sponsored by telecommunications giant MTN as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts in Lagos State, aims to transform the Obalende loop under-bridge and adjacent areas.

The initiative will include the installation of solar panels for long-term energy efficiency, a recycling drop-off station, and the planting of trees to enhance air quality and aesthetics. The new transport hub will feature various amenities such as food and beverage kiosks, passenger ticket booths, public toilets, and a community center to improve health and security in the Obalende area.

The project also aims to reduce crime rates and protect the integrity of the McGregor Canal. Tokunbo Wahab, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Water Resources, highlighted the significance of this transformation given the area's rapid urban population growth and prevalent illegal activities.
