Nigerian Navy Seizes 756kg of Cannabis in Lagos

On July 15, 2026, the Nigerian Navy, under the command of Commodore Aiwuyor Aliu at the Naval Base Beecroft, intercepted 756kg of suspected cannabis in Lagos. The operation was a result of intelligence-led efforts aimed at disrupting drug trafficking along Nigeria's coastline.

The seized drugs were packed in 18 bags and were formally handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over the weekend. The interception included five bags recovered on April 7 at Abul Osun, two bags from Ikar Island on April 13, and 11 bags seized at Alpha Beach.

The operation was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen maritime security, directed by Vice Admiral Idi Abba, Chief of Naval Staff. Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha emphasized the strategic focus on leveraging intelligence and inter-agency collaboration to prevent criminal elements from exploiting Nigeria's maritime environment.

NDLEA Deputy Marine Command Luka Yerima commended the Nigerian Navy for its commitment to tackling illicit drug trafficking.
