NDLEA Seizes 1,359kg Cannabis, Arrests Two Suspects in Edo

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in a joint operation with the Nigerian Army, discovered a four-bedroom bungalow in the Illushi Community of Esan South East Local Government Area being used as a cannabis warehouse. NDLEA Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju announced the operation on Tuesday in Benin City, stating that 1,359kg of cannabis was confiscated, which included 1,273kg of cannabis and 86kg of cannabis seeds.

Two suspects, 45-year-old Ojore Onweze and 30-year-old George Agwumede, were arrested during the raid. Ofoyeju expressed concerns over the use of residential properties for drug warehousing and emphasized the importance of community involvement in combating drug abuse.

He noted that the NDLEA's recent successes reflect a broader initiative to engage stakeholders in the fight against drug trafficking. The investigation into the operation is ongoing, with efforts to uncover further connections and accomplices.
