Lagos Police Arrest 135 Cultists, Seize Weapons in Raid

On July 7, 2023, the Lagos State Police Command conducted a significant operation to disrupt annual cult initiation ceremonies, resulting in the arrest of 135 suspects. The operation, led by Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai, was initiated based on intelligence that indicated a rise in cult-related violence on this notorious date.

Police deployed tactical teams and patrols across identified criminal hotspots in Lagos. During the operation, authorities recovered 15 locally made Beretta pistols, one English-made Beretta pistol, eight locally made revolvers, nine battle axes, seven machetes, illicit drugs, alcoholic beverages, mobile phones, and assorted charms.

The arrests occurred in various locations, including known gathering spots for initiation activities, with none of the suspects apprehended at their homes. This operation reflects the command's commitment to preventing violence and dismantling criminal networks in the state.
