Lagos State Urges Labor Unions to Enhance Skills

The Lagos State Government has initiated a push for labor unions to strengthen their skills in response to the evolving demands of the workplace, as articulated by Mr. Afolabi Ayantayo during the opening of a two-day training program for union leaders and stakeholders. The workshop, themed "Sustaining Cordial Harmony in Industry," aimed to align traditional labor practices with emerging trends driven by automation, digitalization, and remote work systems. Ayantayo highlighted the fundamental changes in the nature of work and the necessity for a shift in the approach of labor unions towards collaboration rather than confrontation. Mr. Olubusola Abidakun, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, underscored the relevance of the training in light of the global economic realities and the need for continuous learning. Abiodun Aladetan, Chairman of the Trade Union Congress Lagos State Chapter, praised the government's efforts to foster a cooperative environment between labor representatives and government officials, emphasizing the importance of training in equipping the workforce to navigate a technology-driven economy.
