Ikorodu Residents Protest Eight-Month Power Blackout

On Friday, residents of Ikorodu, Lagos State, staged a peaceful protest against an eight-month blackout, accusing the Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) of insincerity. The blackout, which began in August 2025, has severely impacted the community, with residents expressing frustration over unfulfilled promises from the company.

Protesters gathered at the Ikorodu business district office, barricading the entrance and holding placards with messages highlighting their plight. Moshood Aderibigb, a resident, criticized the company for its lack of action despite multiple engagements.

The company acknowledged the situation, explaining that repairs and replacements of faulty transformers are time-consuming and require adherence to established procedures. A senior official, speaking anonymously, expressed regret over previous engagements that did not yield results and assured residents that efforts are being made to restore power as soon as possible.

The company pledged to meet with community representatives on Thursday, March 5, to provide updates on the situation.
