Lagos Community Faces Year-Long Blackout Crisis

Residents of Ajumoni Community in the Meiran area of Lagos have been suffering from a prolonged blackout lasting nearly one year, which has significantly disrupted daily life and local businesses. Community leader Niyi Adeyanju expressed frustration over the lack of response from Ikeja Electric, the electricity distribution company responsible for the area.

Despite several attempts to engage with different offices of the company, including the Alausa head office and the Lagos State Electricity Commission, no solutions have been provided. The blackout has forced some tenants, like Afusat Bello, to relocate due to the instability of electricity.

Businesses, particularly those dealing with frozen food, have suffered huge losses, and residents are enduring extreme heat, especially during the night. The situation has worsened due to rising fuel costs, making it difficult for residents to rely on generators.

Attempts to contact Kingsley Okoti, the head of corporate communications at Ikeja Electric, were unsuccessful as phone lines were not reachable.
