Ikorodu Residents Protest Eight-Month Power Blackout

On Friday, residents of Ikorodu, Lagos State, protested against an eight-month blackout that began in August 2025. The protest took place at the Ikorodu business district office of Ikeja Electric, where demonstrators barricaded the entrance, demanding restoration of power.

Moshood Aderibigb, a resident, accused the company of insincerity and highlighted the severe hardships faced by the community due to the prolonged outage. Despite previous engagements with officials from Ikeja Electric, residents reported no tangible results.

Aderibigb noted that many in the community, including small business owners and artisans, have suffered significant losses due to the blackout and rising fuel costs. Although a senior official from Ikeja Electric expressed sympathy for the residents' plight and acknowledged the need for repairs, he stated that the process is time-consuming.

The company has committed to fast-tracking efforts to restore power and promised to provide a clear timeline for resolution in a meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 5.
