Lagos Task Force Arrests Five for Motorist Extortion

On Wednesday, the Lagos State Environment Sanitation Enforcement Unit, led by CSP Adetayo Akerel, arrested five individuals suspected of being part of a group known as 'Omotaku' in the Aboru area of Abule Egba along the Abeokuta Expressway. The suspects, identified as Alad Olarewaju (25), Oluwadamilare Alabi (38), Sundai Idowu (32), Rabiu Ibrahim (29), and Raji Yusuf (23), allegedly targeted motorists whose vehicles had mechanical faults, offering assistance but later intimidating them to demand payment.

The arrests followed a tip-off received through the agency's hotline, prompting a swift response from the task force. Preliminary findings indicated that the group approached broken-down vehicles, threatened motorists, and demanded money to allow them to continue their journeys.

The suspects have been charged in court for allegedly unlawfully collecting money and obstructing motorists, which could breach the peace.
