Lagos Taskforce Intensifies Clampdown on Street Urchins

The Lagos State Taskforce has launched a comprehensive clampdown on street urchins, commonly referred to as "omotaku," as part of its ongoing zero-tolerance policy against criminal activities in the state. The recent operations were conducted under the leadership of CSP Adetayo Akerel and included a significant intervention at Marwa bus stop in Lekki.

This action followed complaints from motorists regarding extortion and harassment by the suspects, particularly after an incident involving a truck driver whose vehicle had broken down. The suspects reportedly demanded money and threatened to steal vital parts of the truck, including the battery and side mirror.

The taskforce's intervention led to the apprehension of several individuals identified as members of the omotaku group. This operation marks the second phase of an enforcement campaign that began earlier in the week, aimed at restoring order and ensuring the safety of road users in the area.
