Lagos Taskforce Arrests 'Omotaku' Street Urchins in Lekki

On April 2, 2026, the Lagos State Taskforce conducted a crackdown on suspected street urchins, commonly referred to as 'Omotaku,' in the Lekki area. The operation, led by the agency's chairman, Adetayo Akerel, was part of a renewed enforcement campaign to address rising criminal activities in the region.

The arrests were made following intelligence reports and complaints from motorists regarding recurrent incidents of theft, harassment, and extortion by these individuals. During the operation, the suspects allegedly confronted a truck driver whose vehicle had broken down, attempting to extort money and threatening to remove the vehicle's battery and side mirror.

The Lagos State Taskforce has emphasized its commitment to enforcing the government's zero-tolerance policy against criminal elements in the state and will continue to patrol the area to prevent a resurgence of such activities. The arrested suspects will face charges in accordance with the provisions of the Lagos State Special Offences Law.
