Lagos State to Add 220 Trucks for Waste Management

On Saturday, during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Festac, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat announced that the state would deploy an additional 220 trucks to enhance waste evacuation capacity. This announcement follows Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's earlier declaration of acquiring 150 compactor trucks for the same purpose.

Hamzat emphasized the need for these trucks to support the existing Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste collection system, addressing the rising volume of waste due to population growth. He urged residents to utilize approved waste collection channels rather than unregulated cart pushers, which pose risks regarding waste disposal.

Hamzat also highlighted the importance of community involvement in maintaining a clean environment, encouraging regular sanitation exercises and responsible waste disposal to prevent flooding caused by refuse in canals. He reiterated the government's commitment to sustainable environmental management and praised local government participation in sanitation efforts.
