LAWMA to Introduce 150 New Compactor Trucks by Year-End

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) announced the deployment of 150 new compactor trucks by the end of this year, part of a broader plan to acquire 3,000 trucks over the next three years to improve waste collection and evacuation in Lagos. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, revealed this during an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation of Road E at the Olusosun Disposal Facility.

The new fleet includes tricycle compactors designed for narrow streets and hard-to-reach communities. Gbadegesin emphasized that Lagos requires at least 2,000 operational compactor trucks to manage daily waste effectively.

He also mentioned that the state government aims to modernize waste management infrastructure, reduce haulage distances, and transition to a more sustainable waste management system. He assured residents that current waste evacuation delays are temporary and will improve as infrastructure investments take effect.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was commended for his support in modernizing the waste management system.
