Lagos State Government to Sue Over False Flood Video

The Lagos State Government, represented by Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, has threatened legal action against a social media user known as James Sucre for disseminating a misleading video purportedly showing flooding in Lagos. Wahab disclosed that the video, which was shared on X (formerly Twitter), did not originate from Lagos but rather from Bangladesh.

He emphasized that the user must delete the post to avoid legal consequences, stating that the dissemination of false information undermines genuine discussions on issues affecting Lagos. Wahab acknowledged the right to freedom of expression but stressed that this right comes with the responsibility to avoid spreading false narratives.

Following the government's clarification, the user admitted that the video was not from Nigeria and confirmed its removal. The Lagos State Government remains committed to pursuing appropriate legal action against those who spread false information.
