Lagos State Seals Ladipo Market Over Environmental Infractions

The Lagos State Government has sealed the Ladipo Spare Part Market in Mushin due to environmental violations, such as indiscriminate waste disposal and illegal street trading within and around the market. The sealing was carried out by environmental enforcement officials following persistent non-compliance by traders despite several warnings.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday. This action is part of a series of enforcement measures by the Lagos State Government against markets found violating environmental and sanitation regulations.

In July 2024, officials from the Lagos Waste Management Authority and the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps also sealed the Oja Oba Market in the Ile-Epo area due to poor sanitary conditions. Similarly, in October 2024, the Lagos State Government shut down the Itedo Market in Lekki indefinitely for repeated environmental violations and illegal roadside trading.
