Lagos Warns of Expired Products with Altered Dates
The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has alerted consumers regarding the sale of expired and near-expired products that allegedly have altered production and expiry dates in various markets and retail outlets throughout Lagos State. Afolabi Solebo, the General Manager/CEO of LASCOPA, stated that devices and chemicals for altering product dates are reportedly being circulated online, posing significant public health risks.
He noted that this practice violates the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency Law, 2025, as amended. LASCOPA has conducted inspections across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos, identifying products with suspicious date coding and damaged packaging.
Solebo warned that offenders could face sanctions, including product seizures, business closures, and prosecution. Consumers are advised to scrutinize product labels and purchase from trusted vendors.
LASCOPA is committed to ongoing monitoring and enforcement to protect consumer safety and encourages residents to report any suspicious products.
