Ebonyi Governor Sacks Aides, Commissioners, and Dethrones Monarchs Amid Land Crisis

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has sacked political appointees in Amasiri Community, Afikpo Local Government Area, and withdrawn recognition of its traditional ruler due to a deadly land dispute. The decision came after a violent clash between Amasiri Community and neighboring Okporojo Village and Oso Community in Edda Local Government Area, resulting in casualties and property damage.

Governor Nwifuru accused Amasiri Community of failing to show a genuine commitment to peace, leading to the drastic measures. He also declared that the traditional ruler and community leaders had lost their recognition and dissolved the town union leadership in Amasiri Village.

The governor warned against misinterpreting the action as hostile, emphasizing the government's commitment to fairness and justice. Security agencies have been urged to intensify efforts to restore peace and protect lives in the affected areas.

The Chairman of Edda Local Government Council, Chima Ekuma Nkama, expressed gratitude for the governor's intervention, aiming to restore confidence in the government among the affected population.
