Ebonyi Government Demolishes Shrine Amid Violence

The Ebonyi State Government, led by Governor Francis Nwifuru, has taken decisive action by ordering the demolition of a shrine in Amasiri, Afikpo Local Government Area, due to its involvement in recent violent conflicts. These conflicts, stemming from land disputes with neighboring Okporojo in Edda Local Government Area, have resulted in several deaths, including the gruesome beheading of four victims.

In response, Nwifuru has imposed sanctions on Amasiri, which include the dismissal of political appointees, dethronement of the traditional ruler, and the imposition of a curfew. Schools in the area have also been closed.

Nwifuru emphasized that punitive measures will remain in place until the recovery of the severed heads of the victims and the arrest of the perpetrators. A 19-member committee has been established to demarcate the disputed boundaries between Okporojo and Amasiri, with the committee headed by Prof.
