Edo State Reports 30 Lassa Fever Cases, Six Deaths

The Edo State Ministry of Health has reported 30 confirmed cases of Lassa fever, with six fatalities attributed to the outbreak. Dr.

Ojeifo Stephenson, the director of public health in Edo State, disclosed these figures while speaking to journalists in Benin over the weekend. The cases are distributed across various local government areas, with Etsako West recording 20 cases, Esan West with four, Akoko Edo and Egor each with two, and Ovia North East with one case.

Dr. Ojeifo noted that the disease is not new to the people of Edo State, as cases typically peak during certain years.

He urged residents to seek medical attention promptly when experiencing persistent fever, rather than self-medicating. The state has been proactive in responding to the outbreak, ensuring that treatment is administered promptly.
