Plateau State Confirms 3 More Deaths from Lassa Fever Outbreak

Plateau State health officials have confirmed three more deaths from Lassa fever, bringing the total number of fatalities to three out of eight confirmed cases. Dr.

Salom Oboyi, a resident doctor at Bingham University Teaching Hospital, was among those who succumbed to the disease. Dr.

Nichola Baamlong, the Commissioner for Health in Plateau State, revealed the latest fatalities during an interview with a television channel. The victims tested positive for Lassa fever in laboratory tests.

Contact tracing, active surveillance, and public health response activities are ongoing to prevent further transmission. Plateau State has received vaccines from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to strengthen its response efforts against the disease.
