Lassa Fever Death Toll Reaches 214 in Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported that the death toll from Lassa fever has reached 214. During week 23, from June 1 to June 7, 2025, there was an 18.9% increase in suspected and confirmed cases compared to the previous week.

The outbreak has spread across 23 states and 109 local government areas, with five states accounting for 84% of confirmed cases. Ondo state leads with 28%, followed by Bauchi at 25%, Taraba at 15%, Edo at 10%, and Benue at 6%.

The NCDC noted that young adults aged 21 to 30 years are predominantly affected, with a median age of 30 years among cases. No new healthcare worker infections were reported during week 23, indicating ongoing surveillance and case management efforts across the affected states.
