Lassa Fever: NCDC Confirms 9 New Cases In 3 States
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed nine new cases of Lassa fever in three states - Ondo, Edo, and Taraba. In their latest situation report for Epidemiological week 31, a total of 836 confirmed cases and 156 deaths have been recorded nationwide, with a case fatality rate of 18.7%.
The report also highlighted that 21 states have reported at least one confirmed case of Lassa fever across 105 Local Government Areas. The disease predominantly affects people aged 21-30 years, with cases ranging from one to 96 years old.
The NCDC noted a decrease in suspected and confirmed cases compared to the same period in 2024. The National Lassa fever Technical Working Group is coordinating response activities to contain the spread of the disease.
